Construction Level Designs, Engineering Plans and Documentation
Sarah began her civil engineering career in 1998, focusing mainly on drainage design for commercial and residential projects. In 2011, Sarah started as the civil lead in several solar facilities. She formed key relationships in the industry, continuing to develop projects and form the Energy Department at AZTEC Engineering. Sarah managed, been the lead civil engineer and the Engineer of Record for over 400MW of solar PV projects through the US and Mexico. She has worked on the development, permitting and final construction phases of projects from 500kW to 200MW. She focuses on the grading and drainage design, writing drainage reports and handling the erosion control aspects of projects. Sarah’s complete research and understanding of the civil requirements for each local AHJ is key to her client’s and project’s success. She has experience in drainage design software including HEC-1, HEC-RAS, channel and culvert design software and AutoCAD. In addition to the lead civil engineering role, she has managed as many as 14 employees, worked closely with all of the solar clients at AZTEC, monitored budgets and handled invoicing. Spending time getting to personally know her clients has made her the reason many clients thoroughly enjoy and continue to work with Sarah.
Tom has over 22 years experience as a Land Surveyor in both the public and private sectors and has been a Registered Land Surveyor in Arizona since 2017. He is a member of the Arizona Professional Land Surveyors Association and is actively involved in the local surveying community. He has experience performing construction computations and layout, field to finish base-mapping, property research and analysis, and as-built surveys. Tom has worked in the renewable energy market since 2013 and has conducted ALTA surveys and construction layout for projects in various states across the country including: California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, and Ohio. Tom has also managed the civil design for renewable projects ranging from 300kWac to 500MWac. He has an active history in earthwork modeling, drainage calculations, SWPPP design, and value engineering. He is experienced in all phases of design from pre-development due diligence and LCOE analysis with the stake-holder, to project permitting and the production of construction drawings for the EPC contractor. Tom is also engaged in the fields of GIS and photogrammetry and strives to stay on the cutting edge of industry technology.
Tom entered the solar energy industry in 2008 and has been working in solar photovoltaic engineering and design for twelve years. Roles have varied from detailed design and drafting of complete PV project plans, to managing external engineers and consultants. He has designed and/or managed 200+ MWdc worth of PV that is currently operational. He has been involved in all phases of the project life-cycle, from the early development stage and interconnection application and study phases, all the way through to permit and construction-ready plan designs, as-built drawings, commissioning/inspection, and project handover. He has a strong knowledge of NEC code as it pertains to PV design and engineering and code compliance. Tom is also familiar with rooftop and ground mount civil and structural design requirements as well as interpreting and applying geotechnical report results. Before helping to form Meridiem, Tom worked for AZTEC Engineering and before that SunEdison, where he was a PM, and an engineering manager and managed engineers & designers. He spent much of his time coordinating project schedules and deliverables between all internal and external stakeholders, creating major equipment specifications and coordinating equipment orders with contractors.
